Creating and importing tasks: the basics

Learn the different ways to create and import tasks into your Sunsama task list.

When building your task list for the day, you’ll need to create and/or import tasks into your task list.

Tasks originate natively in Sunsama or from various external sources, and can be added during daily planning or anytime.

Walkthrough

Different types and sources of Sunsama tasks

Regular Sunsama tasks

Create standalone or recurring Sunsama tasks that exist only within the platform, independent of other tools.

Tasks from calendar events

Import events from your calendar, automatically or manually, to build out your task list. Calendar-sourced items display Google or Outlook calendar icons on task cards.

Tasks from integrations

Tasks can be created from integrated tools like Gmail by either:

  • Dragging items from the integration panel into your task list
  • Copying a URL and pasting it into the add task modal

Integrated task cards show the source tool’s icon.

Backlog

The backlog is where tasks can exist without being tied to a specific date. Drag tasks from the backlog into daily task lists when ready to schedule them.

Weekly objectives

Weekly Objectives represent priorities, larger goals, and mini projects. Tasks aligned to objectives display a purple bullseye icon.

Tasks from URL

Create tasks that are linked to a URL or website by copying a website’s URL and pasting it into the add task modal. These tasks display a link icon serving as a backlink to the webpage.

Global add task

Create tasks outside Sunsama using the global add task keyboard shortcut.

Merging tasks

You can merge your tasks into other tasks as subtasks. Hold the Alt or Option key while dragging and dropping a task onto another to merge them.
