Task rollover: the basics
Learn how incomplete tasks roll over and how the archive keeps your task list clean.
Tasks that are left incomplete at the end of the day roll over to the next day, but there are some exceptions and things to note.
Walkthrough
Task rollover
All tasks automatically roll over to the next day’s task list if they are left incomplete at midnight. You need not worry about incomplete tasks from previous days or manually moving incomplete work forward.
Archive
The auto-archive feature automatically captures incomplete tasks that have rolled over multiple consecutive days. Access it via the right-hand panel (crescent moon icon) or with keyboard shortcut Shift A.
The purpose of the archive is to help you declutter your task list of tasks you simply aren’t doing.
Key points about the archive:
- A pink badge appears on the archive icon when tasks have been archived
- A message appears at the bottom of your task list reading “N Tasks moved to archive”
- You can access settings at the top of the archive panel to disable or adjust the threshold
- Tasks enter the archive only automatically, not manually
- Once archived, tasks remain until you take action (moving, completing, or deleting them)
Auto-completing imported events and meetings
Imported calendar events are subject to rollover if incomplete. You can configure auto-completion settings at: Settings > Calendar > Meeting Import: “Auto-complete imported calendar events”.
See Importing Meetings for additional auto-complete settings details.
Recurring task rollover behavior
Recurring tasks, like regular tasks, will always roll over if left uncompleted.
Actions that qualify as “edits” (making instances unique and exempt from rollover removal):
- Editing task name
- Editing notes
- Editing subtasks
- Logging actual time
- Editing planned time
- Editing channel
