Tasks: the basics

Learn the building blocks of Sunsama — creating, managing, and completing tasks.

Task overview

Tasks are the building blocks of your Sunsama. They represent the things you plan to work on every day.

Walkthrough

Creating tasks

You can create tasks by clicking “Add task” or using keyboard shortcut A. Tasks can also be imported from integrated tools like calendar meetings, emails, or Linear tickets via the right-hand panel.

Task properties

Tasks include several properties:

  • Notes: For organizing thoughts and tracking progress with rich text formatting.
  • Subtasks: Break tasks into smaller parts; subtasks can be timed and completed.
  • Planned time: Estimated hours for daily work on the task. See Planned and actual times for more.
  • Actual time: Real time spent; logged manually, automatically, or via the task timer.
  • Channel: Organize tasks into categories. See Channels and contexts for more.

Recurring tasks

Create repeating task series for routine work. To set up a recurring task: create the task, click it to open it, select the three-dot menu, click “Repeat,” then configure the frequency.

Using focus mode

Use Focus Mode to focus on one task at a time. You can do this by hitting F on your keyboard. See Focus Mode for more.

Completing tasks

Check off completed tasks by clicking the checkmark circle or using keyboard shortcut C.

Understanding rollover

Any tasks that are left incomplete will automatically roll over to tomorrow’s task list at midnight. Incomplete tasks display a numbered circle indicator showing consecutive rollover days.

If a task keeps rolling over and you aren’t getting to it, the Archive helps manage recurring rollover tasks. See Task rollover: the basics for more.
